Parent of a Child Visa
The Parent of a Child Visa enables a parent to reside in the UK to care for their child who is already living in the UK and is either a British or Irish citizen, settled in the UK, or has pre-settled status.
This visa can lead to indefinite leave to remain or settlement in the UK after a period of 5 years.
Eligibility and Application
To qualify for a Parent of a Child Visa to enter the UK, you must satisfy UK Visas and Immigration that you meet the following requirements:
Age:
You are at least 18 years old.
Child’s Circumstances:
Your child is under the age of 18.
Your child is living in the UK.
Your child is a British or Irish citizen, settled in the UK, or has pre-settled status.
Parental Responsibility - Either:
You have sole parental responsibility for the child; or
The parent or carer with whom the child normally resides is a British or Irish citizen in the UK, settled in the UK, or has pre-settled status, and they are not your partner. Additionally, you are not eligible to apply for entry clearance as a partner under Appendix FM of the Immigration Rules. You must have direct access to the child in person, as agreed with the parent or carer, or as ordered by a UK court.
Role in Upbringing:
You are actively involved in the child’s upbringing and intend to continue this involvement.
Financial and Accommodation Capability:
You can support yourself and any dependents in the UK without relying on public funds.
English Language Proficiency:
You satisfy the English language requirement.
