Other Child Visas

The UK provides additional immigration pathways for children under specific circumstances where a parent holds or is being granted limited leave to enter or remain on a route leading to settlement, or where a parent or relative is settled in the UK or being admitted for settlement, but not under Appendix FM of the Immigration Rules as a Partner or Parent, or as a Points-Based System migrant.

If the child's parent holds or is being granted leave as a Partner or Parent under Appendix FM of the Immigration Rules, the child should apply for a Child of a Partner or Parent Visa instead.

If the child's parent holds or is being granted leave as a Points-Based System migrant, the child should apply as a Dependent Child of a Points-Based System (PBS) Migrant.

Children who are British citizens, have indefinite leave to remain, or are otherwise settled in the UK do not require a visa to enter the country.

Requirements for a UK Child Visa as the Child of a Parent with Limited Leave to Enter or Remain

This visa category is suitable for children seeking entry aligned with a parent who is being granted or has been granted limited leave to enter or remain on an immigration route leading to settlement in the UK, other than as a Partner or Parent under Appendix FM or as a Points-Based System migrant.

To qualify for a UK Child Visa under these circumstances, you must satisfy UK Visas & Immigration that:

  1. Age and Dependence:

    • Your child is under the age of 18 at the time of application.

    • Your child has not formed an independent family unit.

    • Your child is not leading an independent life.

  2. Parental Circumstances (one of the following must apply):

    • One parent is settled in the UK or is being admitted to the UK for settlement, while the other parent is being granted or has been granted limited leave to enter or remain with the intention of settling.

    • One parent granted limited leave to enter or remain has had sole responsibility for the child's upbringing.

    • There are "serious and compelling family or other considerations" that make excluding the child undesirable, with suitable care arrangements made.

  3. Financial and Accommodation Requirements:

    • Your child meets the financial requirement.

    • Your child meets the accommodation requirement.

The specific criteria your child needs to meet may vary based on your personal circumstances and those of your child. For tailored guidance, consider seeking advice from an immigration lawyer specializing in UK visas.
